the issue rn is largely that the billing migration has caused a lot of issues and the billing dept is super overwhelmed

Cloudflare gives you Origin Server Certificates (SSL/TLS -> Origin Server) which you can use on your origins behind Cloudflare Proxy just like any other trusted cert

So you need to change your nameservers. But then after you change your nameservers, you can add an A/AAAA record to point Cloudflare to your server.

You need to change the NS records. Then once those are changed to Cloudflare, you can add A/AAAA records.

You'll need to add your Cloudflare NS records to your registrar (for example, Squarespace, Namecheap, Porkbun, AWS Route 53, etc). Once those have been added (replacing any existing ones), Cloudflare will allow you to add DNS records from the Cloudflare dashboard, pointing it back to where it was.
