1: users will change to a terminal that is in a user-owned directory, you can now delete a file and destroy your session
2: users will change to a terminal they've layered, they can now unlayer it to destroy their session
3: Users on KDE can switch away from bash, they have now destroyed their session

Oh yeah I forgot - I originally did that but switched it back later to the one in /usr. The brew one seems to be cached somewhere though
edit: rebooting uncached it and the update succeeded thereafter

It's definitely a KDE bug that changing your terminal breaks the session
