KYes. Nvidia would work on a desktop image, but you'd lose game mode.

KDesktop images don't have game mode or HHD
Lin Handled it doesnt matter because I never play on Handled with oculink
KSo you won't have any game mode at all, and the input on your handheld won't work properly

KOr you can wait for NVK to mature, it'll get more performant in the next year
