Ai'd rather have a good laptop experience and a good gaming experience, rather than a mediocre experience of both on the same device
KI have my Legion Go, but it struggles on larger displays in some of my games and I don't always want to play on a 8.8" screen on the go.

KWell, I can only speak for myself, but I'd never buy a gaming laptop expecting to NOT plug it in

KCost is why I didn't get a Framework, especially after the USD exchange rate.
JThe AMD Advantage laptops were awesome, but now I can just Framework 16 and be done forever.

Kthis is what a Framework 16 w/ Radeon GPU would cost me in my currency. I paid $917 for similar performance prebuilt (on sale but still)

MHonestly already paying off, I spend half as much time on kernel bisects and builds as I used to
MI’m going to throw together a kernel patch for my own testing with some ODM/MPO reverts and see if there are any downsides to it
KThe only reason I can see this possibly not happening is just because of the laptop vs desktop market share changes over the last years. Desktop share is way down.

AMD's APUs are increasingly becoming "good enough" for most casual users. Same for Intel APUs.

Theoretically if you buy into the ecosystem you will save money in the long run say when you would typically upgrade to a new laptop you don't actually need to do that. Just buy a new GPU or Mainboard. Don't need to buy an entire new chassis with screen, keyboard, GPU, Chassis, RAM, SSDs, ect. To just get a CPU upgrade for example.

I know Framework has proven themselves reliable with CPU mainboard upgrades. I trust that. But I've been burned by 'Upgradable Laptop GPUs' (CoughDellCough) before, and won't trust Framework to do that until another model does actually come out that's backwards compatible.

AAlso I doubt a $917 similar spec laptop has anywhere the build quality of the Framework 16. I would exspect a screen without Dci-p3 color gamut, a spongy keyboard, lower resolution. A plastic chassic, etc. My last laptop was kind of that situation and some of the standoffs that hold the screws that keep the two halfs of the chassis together broke off. Also the keyboard space bar broke and that is like a half day of work to replace. also the screen was not that great.

ATotally understandable. I didn't fall for those but I followed them. That is why I waited for Framework 16 and to see how the 13 got upgrades.
