ISounds like I made the right choice diving right into Vulkan based on what I'm seeing here
Lfor beginners gl will be a lot of graceful of a learning experience
Aand literally, my only other gripes with the api are:
- lack of adapter enumeration (that i can see)
- no manual present, it just feels weird although genuinely not a massive deal
- weird namespacing although this is more of an sdl3 thing as a whole, made it a bit of a pain to find functions i needed
other than that it's pretty damn sound
TOpenGL is becoming more and more deprecated

TSo it's also nice that new GPU wrapper apis are finally starting to sprout a lot now

Ai was actually looking into maybe using vkd3d earlier today, any idea how good its support on linux is? i know it supports wine but it seems to have a native version too
Aand now that dx12 will be officially supporting spir-v, seems like it could be perfect

IGenuine question, I get Vulkan is complex (I hate it half the time myself), I'm curious why D3D is still a major thing? Just more support or?
Ad3d generally has a much nicer api, much less verbose and has fantastic performance
Athe last point was much more relevant in the d3d11 vs opengl days, as ms purposefully nerfed performance of opengl
Abut is still somewhat relevant now as d3d12 is still easier and less verbose than vulkan, therefore requires less "effort" to get running well

Awhen you push opengl a bit, stuff that would run at 120fps on linux ran at like 60 (or less) on windows lol

II was bouncing around the idea on whether or not I should support D3D as well as Vulkan in this project but I'm still mixed about the idea given it'd be windows only
TI have never cared one bit for DX, as I've always felt that cross-platform support is important

Athey aren't pro developer, that's for sure. but yeah, they have biases towards AA/AAA devs rather than indies
II've got my project running on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android atm but I don't have any consoles (besides a switch but uh, nintendo.)
Ain ms's favour, last i've heard they are much more favourable towards indies than sony is. not sure about nintendo
Iall I know is they're very picky about their SDKs
