Do you consider your style ahead of, on, behind trend or separate? - Topic of the day 7/10/25
We're not burying the lede, folks. Whatever your answer (ahead of trends, on trend, behind trends, separate from trends), what aspects of your wardrobe contribute to this? Is trendiness in clothes a positive or negative thing to you? Well and truly behind
If I’m involved in trends at all it’s unconsciously by absorbing ideas from what I’m seeing online. I’m not trying to be on trend but if I see something new I like I’ll integrate it regardless.
in/out lists in july????
i'm gonna be sick
I think he does em every month
okay that's funny this person sounds funny
I imagine that the trend cycle and most people's style are two lines that are in parallel for the most part with brief moments of convergence.
My reaction to those moments is "huh neat"
I like to adapt trends I like into my own style and keep them there which I guess can make me look a bit dated at times
but overall I like to think that my style exists separate from trends for the most part
I feel like 'techwear' is slightly dated from a trend cycle perspective but also has inherent characteristics that I like, or elements which can (and do) get applied to current trends. I like to try out new things, some of which either are or become trends, alongside the clothing I've enjoyed and worn for a longer period
Also, being behind the trend is just being ahead of the next one (e.g. skinny jeans) 🧠
really need me a its not going anywhere bag
im severely 5-10 years behind
Trends?
i don’t think i consciously follow trend cycles, however i’d definitely say i’m somewhat influenced by them somewhat recently - higher waists and country looks are definitely more ‘in’ at the moment, along with buying vintage in general. in general i wouldn’t say i’m terribly influenced by modern pop culture but 70s and 80s media has shaped a lot of my fashion
Wearing a tie but real style i'm a fan
Think it went too far with very y2k fits
I don't think my style has changed that much in the last yr and i'm not trying to fit trends into my future ideas
I think i'm somewhat on the current trend rn
I'm a bit down on super baggy suits and slacks that are now prevalent
Denim as well though i'm not at 501s level in terms of that cut being what i'm most comfortable with
rotisserie chicken ftw, seems I've always been way ahead of trends :sunglas:
Started typing out a whole thing replying to this seriously but like nvm :xd:

damn @/gazoo is on the way out :nooooo:

‘Yeah I’m not really affected by trends I’m just doing my own thing’

Anyway sol has had sandy liang in either in and out like four times in the past year which I think is really funny
I understand how forecasting works but it still makes me giggle
This Sol guy seems like the worst kind of fashion NYC wannabe influencer
N Y C
N Y C

I just buy stuff that I like and the stuff I like is influenced by the trends in the content that I consume. It's the same for everyone

Tinder isn’t safe for the archive fashion community anymore. Every girl you see with a picture of Tabis is Sol. Every single one. There are no girls on the internet. Also stop recommending 2nd street and beacons closet when we ask what your favorite vintage store is. It’s like words don’t even mean anything anymore with you people.

that is amazing
He is very nice and cool and a friend of the discord
On the way out
swag
I’m out of trend, mainly comes down to pants
I haven’t diversified my pants supply
When it comes to topewear and outerwear I’d ahead because I’ve diversified from different kinds of shirts , materials and more
I am very much behind trends, as I am a majority Thift Store shopper. I estimate about 5-15 years behind trend depending on when someone in my size dies, finds out it doesn't fit them anymore, or gets bored.
hm
My wardrobe consists of the starter pack from 10 years ago plus whatever random things have caught my interest since then. I am both happy and insecure about it
i think about this one like every week
it’s so fucking funny
i’m like an airport drug dog, i see vintage celine out of the corner of my eye 💥 i’m sat
you’re not crazy like this dog, you’re not vindictive like me
is my mantramakes me wish Sol was in here and that blueeyes chatted more. those dudes are so damn funny
unfortunately they live in nyc and are cool and sociable and do not need us
I don’t particularly mind looking like I just walked out of 2015 since I didn’t actively participate in fashion then, so it’s all new to me anyway. That said, I do enjoy having bought certain pieces because I thought they were trendy (eliding the question of trendy for whom), which allowed me to experiment more.
So, like most people here, I’d say a mix of behind and current (probably mostly behind for me)
need carrion w a cute leather bag being absolutely crushed to death
Sol was very confused when i said i recognized him in real life
tbf i did it in a very socially awkward way
Understatement
You recovered okay though
Do we have a list of trends?
trends are so nebulous
it'd be nearly impossible to make a meaningful list
dm me i got a list
I’ve been behind for so many years
And if nylon pants are going to trend, I refuse to keep up. Nylon is a sensory nightmare for me
I wore nylon parachute pants in 4th grade. Wouldn’t surprise me. I think Cavaricci’s came after that. Uh oh.
dm me for trends
Can't believe @sharloy isn't here anymore.
No this is completely true
Met him in person a few times he’s unbearable
doughy finance guys in boat shoes is such a shit thing to say
