Can't do proper install. Please help with kickstart ks.cfg & ventoy_grub.cfg

So since this is my first Linux distro, for now I want a dual boot setup with Windows.

Sadly, that's only possible without disk encryption. Unless you use kickstart scripts.

I've been bothering chatgpt for hours on hours and have gotten nowhere.

The entry "Bazzite Auto Install (Surface, Stable, Encrypted Btrfs)", as specified in the ventoy_grub.cfg, doesn't even show up, even though I put it in H: With the isos and in the ventoy subfolder on that drive.

Am I still not getting something? Please help

I'm not sure what you are trying to do with Ventoy but you can do disk encryption with manual partitioning in the installer. What exactly are you trying to achieve by editing the ventoy files?

1. According to bazzite's page, since it's a surface device, I need ventoy.
2. As I mentioned, it is supposed to be dual boot. There is a bug in the Anaconda installer due to which dual boot setup is only possible WITHOUT disk encryption.

Hence the need for ventoy & Kickstart.

You should be enable btrfs encryption with manual partitioning (you had to pick something special in the options I'd need to check my VM quickly), then you probably don't need to do the kickstart file.

If you follow the video guide on the website or the Bazzite docs. When you get to the part where you add the btrfs partition. do this instead
Set your device type to Btrfs Volume, set the mountpoint to /, tick encrypt and set your passphrase

Then when you adding the other subvolumes you only add /var and /var/home

Nope. only / /bin /usr are read-only everything in /var and /etc is read-write

Huh, ok, great, it actually took those changed.

This is the point where the procedure had failed already by doing it according to the video but with luks2.

Thats the error that anaconda gives when it has no idea what the actual error is. I would hold out for the Bazzite live ISOs and hope that installer works better

So bazzite is going to replace anaconda? When is that live iso gonna come out?

I read somewhere that bazzite is discontinuing the surface tailored distributions after fedora 42 base. Given the extra hoops I have to jump through because of surface (ventoy with grub2), can that live iso even work for my surface?

I'd try a different boot software like Rufus or Fedora Media Writer. Also trying a different ISO couldn't hurt

Most software that makes bootable USB devices work on pretty much anything
