might seem stupid but how do i create a .txt file?

was watching a video unrelated but he was on bazzite and made a text file, i cant find anything about it on the internet and the only options i have are to create new .conf files, and its annoying to have to delete everything in a file everytime and rename the file to txt everytime instead of just writing

touch myFirstTXTFile.txttouch myFirstTXTFile.txtor just open Kate and save the file as file.txtfile.txt
On linux you don't need to save a file with .txt as file extension (or any file extension at all) to be a text file.

Yeah extensions are more for just sorting things yourself visually. They don't actually mean too much in linux.

Okay it matters to some programs but in general files are determined other ways.

open kwrite or Kate
type some text
hit save
Call it file.txt

For reference in your home folder you have a TemplatesTemplates folder where you can add new blank files you can add to your "create new" context menu
