yes, we should probably use it in our builds...

the downside is ostree container commitostree container commit doesn't like stuff in /var/var so you have to clean it before doing the container commit... but we do that anyway...

so if you just want builds and RPM installs to work, the above is all you need...

but you CAN go a step further, copy the contents of /var/lib/alternatives out, ostree container commit, and then copy them back to /var/lib/alternatives if you want to try to preserve that stuff I do the latter in my image... but it's not crucial just nice to have the extra info IMHO

it IS a hack, but it's required to install somethings, like the netcat RPM, it simply breaks without it

I think copying back and forth is a bit janky, but just creating the directory, I feel like ugly but working is better, especially since like, stuff like rust doesn't work otherwise.

i'm fine with that. the main goal is to cleanly do installs, not preserve the alternatives data

each Containerfile build needs to have it's own

mkdir -p /var/lib/alternatives

mkdir -p /var/lib/alternatives

if it's going to install any RPMs which need alternatives... so, IMHO, it's just a nice default hack until upstream Fedora and/or package maintainers find better solutions for alternatives
