Keeping the Spit roll axis pivot point as it is in the video would be an interesting design challenge. Knowing the amount of talent we have in this community: possible, probably. If all you want to keep is the cool Spitfire grip though, then it'd be much easier. Custom grips have been used with Rhino already.

It won't be as clean looking, or will require a very long belt, but he should be able to just tie a motor in the same way that the current axis is. Just remove the sensor, chain, springs, and add an appropriate gear.

Thanks for the useful infos! For me, the roll axis pivot point is a must have because it adds more to the immersion then the ffb in my point of view. But i can see the challenge which comes with it too. I think I'll try it next year as a new project

The kits come with motors and control board. Any other accessories you have to obtain on your own.

Well I just spent my first two hours flying and tweaking with the Rhino in MSFS. This is absolutely the BEST controller I have ever encountered, to the point that everything else I've used is just an "also ran" now. I liked my winwing orion 2 (especially after warthog stiction hell) but it can't even begin to compare to this. That one's just a very expensive paper weight now. I love the Rhino's software as well. I flew an RV7 for several years, and it's absolutely possible to recreate the stick forces of that plane exactly with the Rhino. Just brilliant work @walmis, truly. Thank you for creating such a masterpiece.

I just run a 2nd instance of TelemFFB to talk to mine. They can produce the same haptic effects that the Rhino does (at least where the X axis is involved). (I also run a 3rd instance for my collective)

In general, there's not a whole lot of pedal specific effects that could be created. The two primary ones being dynamic forces and of course, trim. Nosewheel shimmy is another. I have added both dynamic forces and shimmy to TelemFFB for MSFS. Trim is a bit more of a problem.

DCS, unfortunately, doesn't support any of these. It's FFB is limited to X/Y joystick axis. What's worse is that it will send ALL FFB events to EVERY FFB device it is talking to. This isn't usually a problem since you will get the native effects like buffeting, but it also means that the native trim movement of the control stick will be mirrored on the pedals (a bigger problem for helicopter force trim).

The next Rhino firmware should make it possible to override some of what DCS does in that regard.

Today, I switch between two VPforce Configurator profiles (no spring for Heli's, sticky spring for FW)

That's unfortunate to hear about DCS regarding FFB pedals. Was hoping to modify mine in to an FFB setup one day. Having some vibration at high AoA, during taxi, etc would be pretty cool. Maybe someone smarter than I will find a way to pull the telemetry to code it (a la SimShaker) one day.

With TelemFFB you do get all the effects. You’ll also get the shaker style effects that are native to DCS (mostly AoA buffeting). The place where DCS fails is with actual axis feedback (like dynamic forces and trim)

Some a/c do have rudder trimmer specific settings, but I’ve never been able to get them to work. Perhaps because the only axis options on the VPforce board are X/Y (so pedals motor inputs are connected to X). Maybe DCS is looking for Z or something else for the pedals in those instances where a module implements something.

my virpils do the same (for the yaw axis).. the (possible) problem is that you don't bind the original axis any longer after bolting on a motor. You bind the axis from the VPForce board, which is X axis.

Well from my experience flying the Z axis with Hydraulics, the only thing you should need is a centering force. And I some times have trouble to know if the crosswind R P are centered or not with Vr. You could have effects in the rudder but at least for a civ running on hyd not so real. On normal speeds. Near stall could be different for small aircraft.

no.. that is taken care of by being counter-balanced and dampening/friction in VPConf. There realistically is almost zero need for actual axis based FFB for a collective, but it might be cool in the future to be able to simulate autopilot movement and/or friction locking with enough creative development in TelemFFB. Maybe hydraulic loss or other failure conditions too.. I'm not sure.. I've never flown a real helicopter

I am sure this has been asked before but just out of curiosity, what is the average number of rhinos dispatched monthly? Just to know (disregard of the % of people withdrawing while waiting) how long can this take in a worst case scenario. Many thanks
