I am running into a strange issue where the Rhino is connected but the VPforce FFB Configurator is not picking it up. The device shows up on the WebUSB Tool and in Game Controllers but it does not register with the Configurator. Everything runs fine in game but I can't configure anything. It was working previously albeit I haven't used the configurator in a while
I figured it out after some trial and error. The USB ID is somehow stuck on 2050 even though the default in hardware is 2055. Once I was able to plug to another computer and change the joystick USB device ID to 2050, I was able to connect to the machine in question above. I am not sure why the software is stuck to 2050 on that PC. @walmis
On an unrelated note, It warms my heart that after a decade people are still using this. I created this diagram when I first started modding and here we are, building a FFB stick.
from what I have seen, firstly of course VPforce Rhino is the best as far as software, support & community etc. but if you are going diy with non vpforce motors then I would suggest FFbeast not laserwing, can't say about current laserwing but from what I saw of it last & what I have recently seen of FFBeast I would suggest it over laserwing, it seems to have decent software & support growing. Though a vpforce motor/electronics kit would be my top suggestion.
Its just the motors, board and usb connector. You'll need a way to connect the motors to the stick (the gimbal) and some way to attach them to your rig (base). There are DIY kits people have designed where you need a 3d printer and to purchase the listed parts, if you use the discord search function you'll be able to find a few.
My apologies if this is the wrong section for this. I’m trying to build a g-seat and the vpforce telem seems like an ideal place to get telemetry across sim platforms. Is there a feasible way for me to export data from VPforceTelem to a usb COM port?
I’m sure there’s a way to “pass it on” from Telem but that would likely only add latency. The more ideal way would be to pull it directly from the sim in parallel with Telem, instead of getting it from/through Telem. Probably not what you wanted to hear but it would likely be better to do it independently, unless you had Telem directly driving your extra transducers or motors.
Hmm got it. What level of latency are we talking? One potential Avenue could be to make the seat an FFB device and give it the G-effect. (That seems a bit round-about tho.) I’m most of the way to what I need for DCS, getting data out of MSFS and especially IL2 will be trickier
Eventually, I want to add a 2-3 and ultimately a 6DOF motion platform. While the telemetry from the sim (no matter which sim it is) is being queried (or published to) TelemFFB, the outputs are different. I imagine that one could incorporate motion platform outputs into TelemFFB, it’s really designed for controls, rather than motion. That’s my geek understanding of it and it might be incomplete. Having said that, there could exist a super-program that does everything. I just don’t know that such things exist yet.
Rather than trying to piggyback on top of TelemFFB, or shoe-horn some additional export functionality into a fork (and then having to try to keep it updated in synch with the main branch)... you'd likely be better off just borrowing the DCS export script and modifying it to suit your telemetry needs.
What TelemFFB does with simconnect is likely way overly complex for what you would want for a G-Seat. I'd recommend just looking at some of the pysimconnect examples on how to get the basic G/Vector telemetry you would want/need.
Similarly with IL2, most of the complexity there is in the decoding of the telemetry stream, which again, you could lift that decode module from TelemFFB.
Hello @walmis I have problem with my DYI Rhino. Yesterday it shutoff when I was dogfighting in DCS. I got this in view in my VpConfigurator, both motors "offline". I pressed reset numerus times, reset pc, removed power but nothing changes. One motors screws were hot so I thought, maybe it need to cool down. But after 7h it's still the same. Resetting profile or motors is not doing anything. What can I do?
