Could they just copy the /usr/share/gamescope-session-plus/sessions.d/steam file over to /var/home/$USER/.config/environment.d/gamescope-session-plus.conf and add the line and have it used instead of the system conf?

That was the strangest concept for me. A config file, that does not exist, in a folder that should be there.. Just make it! and then it works!

Yeah they would need to create the conf file in the $USER/.config/environment.d folder and probably include the default CLIENTCMD options and just add -pipewire at the end within the " "

Yup; just for kicks I went ahead and created a custom conf to see if that env is loaded properly. Easy enough to remove if it breaks things.

Go to your terminal and create the environment.d folder in .config

mkdir -p $USER/.config/environment.d

Edit a new file called gamescope-session-plus.conf

nano $USER/.config/environment.d/gamescope-session-plus.conf

nano $USER/.config/environment.d/gamescope-session-plus.conf

Paste:

CLIENTCMD="steam -gamepadui -steamos3 -steampal -steamdeck -pipewire"

Save file (CTRL+X then Y) and reboot

there is a tool preinstalled to download dxvk (type "proton" in the apps menu and shoudl appear), you need to select the location manually tho

then you are on your own as we do not support the use of system wine and it is a bad habit to use it directly, system wine is there as a dependency for lutris for some stuff to make it work and is meant to never be directly used.
