DThis is cool, but I will be honest, I kind of want to promote alternatives that are Linux friendly, even if just wrapped web apps, than run VMs, with RDP and all that nonsense.
OStill, if it gets to it, imma invest on ssd from now on, hdd is suffering
WMaybe it would make sense have Bazzite specific documentation for it but it's going to be quite a challenge to make a ujust automation for it. However, I am definitely going to test this out... I didn't know about this project
DI agree. I actually run a small community dedicated to that kind of thing. It's about providing options. Once they're on Linux then it'll be easier for them to try out alternatives.
My brother needed Office for work and used a tool called Cassowary, which is both the successor and predecessor to winapps :p. Once he could get settled into Linux it was possible to look at alternatives that could get him away from it. We settled on Obsidian + LanguageTool Extension + Pandoc.

DThe recommendation comes from experience getting people to switch to Linux and more recently Bazzite.

DI also run a small game dev community and asked about the Bazzite DX image but didn't get any takers :P. I did have some initial ideas about the various niches in the game dev space. For example those who go for minimal game sizes. But they weren't fleshed out so I didn't comment

The community isn't on discord. It's a forum with a large gaming audience. I take more a guerilla approach. I have my little corner that I use so whenever a thread comes up with something bad, like Google being bad or Microsoft being dumb, I post the relevant alternatives and point people to my little corner of the forum for further discussion. It's been quite effective in conversion I think. We get some cool people coming in.

Ldoes anyone here have a reliable way to share files between a windows guest and linux host
Li tried to use virtiofs/winfsp and even following guides step by step, they dont work
Li'd be happy to use my network to transfer files, since i have my own router in my room
Lwireless bandwith isnt an issue, but virtiofs just is not working and its starting to piss me off
DOne other thing I've found people worry about is Linux compatibility with their laptop or future laptop. I'm not really a hardware guy so I don't know off the top of my head the various laptops other than the Linux focused, XPS, Thinkpads or Framework. Does anyone know a list of known compatible laptops? Or is that something that needs crowdsourcing.

Lother than the obvious, nvidia, ive never ran into any hardware compatibility issues on any machine
DThere's various small issues. Certain thinks like speaker amps, fingerprint readers etc. On a couple lenovo laptops there's a kernel issue with the standby working every time. Beyond that there's peripherals that may not be fully featured.
DRegardless though if it's a Major issue it is something people worry about. You're never really certain what may or may not work when you install Linux on a laptop meant for Windows.

DIt's all up in the air. The bigger the following for a brand, the better the support. Dell, Lenovo, HP, Asus all have good support. Even if it requires efforts like this discord. There is enough people where there are Linux focused devs that start contributing and figuring things out.
Obscure brands are a crapshoot but also tend to use generic stuff that works mostly.

DI think that's the issue. When we're talking in broad terms to someone if they should switch to Linux there's that caveat of "Assuming your laptop doesn't have issues with Linux" (which I literally just copy pasted from someone else) because of that custom stuff. If we had something more concrete we could instead provide an action to do instead, i.e. Check if your laptops supported here ->. That's what I do when people ask about game compatibility and it makes my life way easier.

Ihey am I being silly because when I try to type on my system with bazzite it just kinda stops typing sometimes, deletes a character, and then retypes it like half a second later
AUnless you buy a business laptop Linux support is a crapshoot
