I think somehow the axis position is on the edge of encoder wraparound and it starts in the wrong angle. It's an easy fix, by readjusting the belt.
Basically slip off the Y axis belt, turn the motor pulley so the

raw_y reads something around 2000-2100, center the stick and reattach the belt.
Then run the auto calibrate on both axes. Final calibration values should stay within 0 .. 4096 range.

What I found helpful to center the motor for mounting the belt is, deactivate all effects but spring. Set it to 50% by 50% by 100% mastergain and manually enter 0 and 4096 as calibration values, before attaching the belt. That will keep the motor nicely centered while attaching the belt and it can't move by mistake. After that you need to do a proper calibration of course.

Yes, the transistors are dissipating into the motor case. The temperature readout is measuring average temperature of the motor case / transistors.

Physically the critical temperature is where the magnets start to demagnetize due to the curie temperature. Currently the software starts to ramp down the max force starting from 55C. It reaches equilibrium somewhere at about 60-65C or so.
P=I^2*R is very much at play here. Every amp adds even more heat to dissipate.

Do you think the coils are hotter or cooler than the transistors? There's probably no way to measure the inners of the motor directly. Would be nice if we could set a custom fan curve. I would like to have the fans running slowly all the time. But I'm already thinking on adding a custom solution for that.

Since these motors are inrunners, the coils are directly attached to the case, so it has great heat dissipation. I wouldn't worry much about the coils.

question. In msfs my forces seem backwards. When the nose pitches up it should be more difficult to pull aft stick. As stick comes back all the force brings the stick back... so it is wrong

What aircraft and which sim you are flying is important information. I'll assume DCS. As Hiob said, ensuring the axis view in configurator correctly follows the stick is step 1. In DCS, most aircraft are fine just this way. There are a couple aircraft (the F5 comes to mind) that need to have the FFB inverted on one or more axes in the "FF Tune" options.

in the VPForce configurator, the stick moves the correct way. In MSFS I have the stick forces correct (though it oscillates even turning down gain and such in configurator) but when I move my nose up trim, the nose does come up but the stick moves forward. I just cant wrap my mind around a way to change the force for that.

could it be something in the MSFS code or the T6 code? So In sim I just swapped the hat and trim force is still wrong. Anytime nose trims up the stick always moves forward.

if you hold the trim down, does it initially move the wrong direction and then correct itself or does it continue to move in the wrong direction to the trim stop? It's unlikely that the telemetry is backwards from the aircraft (what drives the feature in TelemFFB) but I suppose its possible. It's more likely that the physical/virtual trim setup in TelemFFB needs some tuning for that aircraft. Yes, to support autopilot and trim following, TelemFFB must be in control of the axes which means you must un-bind them in the sim or else MSFS and TelemFFB will be fighting with eachother for control of the axis position

After a quick scan through the T6A manual, it seems as if it is using an external flight model and control mapping (the latter of which I have never seen before). TelemFFB relies heavily on default Simvar data for its operation. When one-off “outside the norm” aircraft are developed, all bets are off.

The manual explicitly states:

The tablet takes the place of the corresponding default MSFS configuration, control mapping, and failures screens.
The corresponding MSFS options controls are not compatible with the ADV system.

That probably also means that reading/writing the standard simvar stuff will have unpredictable results.

@walmis sorry for the ping. Do you know what would cause "grindiness" under heavier (50%+) spring force, at the outer edges of Y axis movement? Can it be the belt? With my hand on the belt, the roughness seems to originate there and feel almost like it is slipping teeth slightly. And only happens on the rebound to center, never on the way out; also it is very noticeable on one side of the belt ("upper" side on one side of the motor pulley), never even slightly on the belt on the other side of the pulley.
