WThat's what my media PC is, foobar2000 adds all that to a dynamically searchable library with zero perceivable lag. I can find a album with like, 3 button presses or search a entire genre or year like that too.

RI've been able to get Audacious to run with ALSA Output, with that I can play Hi-Res audio as it is.
JI used to run alsa only on arch in the early 2010s but been a minute
JPipewire has wrappers around alsa/pulseaudio/jack so most things end up routed there unless you change that I think
Pexpectations vs reality. any random audio player is not necessarily good at storing metadata properly.
Plook at an actual backing server like navidrome if you need to handle 800gb worth of music efficiently

Vi'm more of a musicbee person but i still enjoy foobar for simple playlist playing and quick tag editing. it's still a powerful and lightweight player though

JI like that Strawberry has subsonic/airsonic/navidrome integration but it's pretty crusty and slow
Pstrawberry's subsonic is ass
JSupersonic is the best desktop subsonic client I've used but it has some rough edges
Pi tried to connect strawberry to a funkwhale server and it exploded
