what I understood from when they initally started this was it like an open source wrapper around a big proprietary blob. It's better than what they had previously, and they could at least get the wrapper into the mainline kernel which they couldn't before. I mean AMD has a firmware blob too tbf, but to a lesser extent than Nvidia's new kernel module.
They introduced the open kernel drivers 2 years ago. The source is available on github, but the development is and will continue being closed. What changes is that there isn't a license conflict with the kernel anymore.
I did a fresh install, first boot went fine set everything up, reboot again afterward and it's jusg black screen. I tried going into tty doesn't work, and i can't get into grub either
