you genuinely won
't run into any problems until you try to meet the capacity on the label

other AMD handhelds
, but other Allys too
. this isn
't a one

.

OP

instability could be down to how the devices are produced
, maybe a lack of proper driver support
, etc
.
P
Pez
OP

you could probably end up with the exact same device
, and no problems at all

I had layered Koi with rpm

brew won
't blow out how long it takes to update and you don
't subject yourself to unnecessary layering
R

you can thing about brew like a flatpak but for cli apps
P

OP

ostree itself is half the reason updating takes so long

OP
•
8/11/24, 11:39 AM
^ if you need a CLI app you should go brew
> distrobox
> ostree layer as a last resort
R
Robotta
•
8/11/24, 11:39 AM
So
, should I ostree reset and then Brew Koi
P
Pez
OP
•
8/11/24, 11:40 AM
layering is not really supported very much so yeah
R
Robotta
•
8/11/24, 11:40 AM
Makes sense then

8/11/24, 11:40 AM

OP

8/11/24, 11:40 AM
honestly i
'd suggest it just because layering takes so long

cask

packages are for MacOS and you can
't really mess up

you don

Could one technically do brew install steam
P

OP
•
8/11/24, 11:43 AM
no
, it would more than likely be a cask for MacOS
P
Pez
OP
•
8/11/24, 11:43 AM
because steam is a GUI tool and already has other distribution methods on linux

you don't really see linux stuff on brew that has any form of GUI

•
8/11/24, 11:44 AM
pretty sure any gui app in brew are
strictly
macos only
P
Pez
OP
•
8/11/24, 11:44 AM
this means it
's only really useful for macos users who want a package manager
- if we need that
, we have our own package managers
P
Pez
OP
•
8/11/24, 11:44 AM
the point of brew supporting both mac and linux is so we can share CLI tools

?
A
asen23

8/11/24, 11:45 AM
also cli stuff between linux and macos are basically similar enough cuz both are unix but the gui part are wildly different
R
Robotta
•
8/11/24, 11:45 AM
So
, Brew install Koi would work
? Or do I stick to rpm
-ostree for that one
?

sorta
, there
's still some porting process involved for actual native apps

OP
•
8/11/24, 11:47 AM
most apps are just leveraging other runtimes for portability
, or redownloading actual binaries as a part of the formulae
