Hello, I'm loving my VPForce Rhino that I recently received. I did have a question though. I see the configuration provides a way to change "Axis Scaling" in the "Effects" tab. Is there also a way to introduce an "Axis Offset" so that I can have a non-standard "center" to the joystick? Even better if I can control via TelemFFB. This would be very useful for helicopters where you really want the "center" position to be where the stick is about 50% the way back. Helicopters spend a lot of time with the stick a long way forward and almost never with it all the way back, and reaching forward can get tiring with a long extension. Even better would be being able to supply complete custom curves.

Easiest way to mess with the center position is messing with the calibration values. I wouldn’t recommend though, but rather bring the base closer to the seat if possible. Also in most helicopters the cyclic position in cruise is slightly forward. Perhaps an inch or two. If you are „a long way forward“, you‘re going way to fast probably. But maybe that is a matter of different perception or definition.

With helicopters and the rhino, center is simply where you trim it to be.
But without any of the axis tom-foolery that the return-to-center trimming dcs has for spring sticks.

Axis scaling etc is more for when you have more physically limiting situations. For example, if you pull back on the stick as far as you can, but you hit your chair and you only reach 80% output, you can scale down that part of the axis by 20-25% and get full range without also grinding down your nuts.

You are quite right that the stick position should only be slightly forward in cruise .. however, (sadly) some helicopters in MSFS 2024 aren't modelled that way and require holding a lot of forward stick to go at normal cruise speed. My arm gets tired reaching so far on long cruises, hence wanting to change the center point. I can somewhat reduce the effect by putting a ridiculous curve in the MSFS axis configuration .. but only somewhat as MSFS doesn't have as much control here as DCS, sadly.

Changing the stick mounting would work for helicopters .. but it would be bad planes (I fly both) where you pull back a lot more. The stick would then be hitting the seat all the time. I guess I could move it back and add a front end-stop in software to just reduce the overall throw of the stick ...

I have found the end stops oscillate as you bounce off them when you hit them .
I f they have a slight delay in milliseconds or ramp in the effect then that might improve the feel substantially.
Instant application of the end stop effect is the likely culprit.

hello i have some hard time recognizing the rhino base after dcs is started. yesterday evening it worked, didnt know how i do that because its first time installing. seems that he cant find the file but it is there in the dcs folder. Dont know why he is searching in dcs open beta because it should be the official dcs directory?

Depends on the other tools in your export lua. If one of the tools is not cleanly programmed and does return on the right way, it will kill tools later in the file.
Sometimes you have to play arond with the order of the entries. If you have a working version make a backup or take a note about the order. So if a tool cleans the export lua (I had this case before) you don't need to start from scratch.

I just updated my firmware after a noification telling me its needed. Now it claims i need to update the configurator, not seeing any ways of directly updating it so i assume i need to replace the entire folder with the fresh install but what file holds all my settings? I want to be able to copy those over to save me some headache

so I just came out of a flight sim hiatus and fired up DCS (after updating firmware of the Rhino, FFB configurator and TelemFFB) and have issues getting the effects that I got beforehand.
like engine rumble etc. I can see it getting read and displayed in TelemFFB but the Rhino isn't doing anything.
regular magnetic trimming etc. does work though.
can seem to find out what the issue is.
has this been an issue recently or did I mess up something?

You have Pot #2 assigned to Periodic effects... whether or not you actually have a pot#2 (base Rhino does not).. the value is at %0.8

I've had two issues on longer flights in DCS where my stick went completely dead. Going from full FFB to nothing and no buttons working. I was able to solve it by hitting the killswitch and then turning it back on and the stick came right back to life both times and functioned just fine until the end of the flihgt...but, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on a potential cause I could investigate a fix?

I mainly fly A-10CIIs in DCS. The Rhino used to jump forwards a bit as soon as I entered the cockpit of the A-10. I've read here that this is normal. But recently (maybe since one of the last DCS updates) the stick stays in the centre. However, DCS now thinks I have already pulled the stick back a bit. As a result, the aircraft always pulls upwards. As long as I fly slowly, the trim is sufficient, but when I fly fast, maximum trim down is no longer sufficient. I then always have to hold against it. If I switch off FFB in the DCS misc settings, the effect does not occur. And I don't have this problem with the Hornet either. Has anyone else noticed this? Or does anyone know a solution?

I’ll need to check later today when I get back from a business trip. I was chatting with subsonic via a PM and he had a pretty good theory that it might be my power supply. The times that I’ve had the stick go dead on me has been usually at the end of a longer mission when I’m in the carrier pattern and of course getting a lot of different forces on the control surfaces with the jet having the landing gear down, etc.. He said he’s saying a similar occurrence when the motors are drawing a lot of power from the PSU and it’s not able to keep up. So I may need to explore buying a more powerful PSU unsure.

I copied your settings @TrigaNZ and now it worked. Kind of wondering if unchecking "adaptinve recentering" somehow did the trick, but not sure. Stick still moves forward, but not by even half as much as it used to.

My problem was related to "Balance Spring". After deactivating it the problem is solved.
Seems to be incompatible with the forward center of A-10C.
