Yes, because this adapter doesn't go into an M.2 slot. It goes into a PCie x1 Slot. It's more akin to a GPU than it is a M.2 SSD. You slot it into one of the slots below your GPU, and you then have a more reliable Wifi connection and a card that actually functions on Linux.

To give a better explanation.
M.2 is simply a connector. You can put a couple of different things down an M.2 connector. Traditionally, the main things that M.2 is used for are PCIe, NVMe, and SATA
PCIe is the standard used for connecting most devices that need to talk with the CPU and need a lot of bandwidth (GPUs, Network Cards, Sound Cards, etc.)
The little Cudy card, is simply an M.2 to PCIe Slot card that is keyed for an M.2 WiFi Module. You could easily replace the WiFi Module inside the Cudy card when the one it comes with becomes outdated or dies.

You don’t install most normal packages. You install Flatpaks. Why do you need gparted? Gnome Disks and KDE Partition Manager should do the same thing and are preinstalled.
