After a bit of advic

[2022-03-10 05:12:01 AM] : After a bit of advice on how to approach an in person workshop opportunity. More info in thread.

I had the same scena

[2022-03-08 07:06:29 AM] : I had the same scenario (e book product), with e-book($29), ebook + example code project ($45), I ended up creating a separate product with just the example code project ($19). I tried to make the bundle looks cheaper ($45 is cheaper than $29 + $19 bought separately) to entice people to buy the bundle Some customers did bought just the example code project, but it is very less iirc (less than 10), as it doesn't take much time to create a separate product for it, I think it is worth it...

Does it make sense t

[2022-03-06 04:38:59 PM] : Does it make sense to move on to part 2 (building the business) without having an audience yet?

Something that still

[2022-03-04 08:49:03 AM] : Something that still surprises me is how fast some people open email newsletters. I've barely comprehended that a campaign has been sent successfully and then a sizeable chunk of subscribers have already opened it. Another indication (I think) that your audience and yourself are not the same people. I don't have any notifications going but I guess many people like to have email notifications enabled

<@U031BEDCU1Z> it’s

[2022-03-03 05:23:42 PM] : Sebastian Messier it’s super common for my posts to get “exploded” into multiple deeper posts, and sometimes recursively. personally i like to do the “lower level” ones first because then a) my higher-level post can link to the lower-level one and b) the thinking that goes into my lower-level posts creates a stronger foundation for my higher-level posts

on the SEO front, if

[2022-03-03 04:36:41 PM] : on the SEO front, if you do the parent first, it’s probably a good idea to bump the date on that post when you add new links

yep, seems like a go

[2022-03-03 04:34:59 PM] : yep, seems like a good idea to me. i don’t know whether or how much the order of operations matters for stuff like SEO, probably fine either way. so maybe think about stuff like what’s easier to write, what kills the strongest or most prominent pain, what might be most likely to get shared, etc...

Hi! I want to share

[2022-03-03 04:00:22 AM] : Hi! I want to share an experience with you all. I just moved to Spain and, mostly in order to get my paperwork in place I took a full time job as a Dev Advocate. As I started my new role I realized how this course helped me decide what kind of content to produce. Basically I safari'ed the company's tech support channels and immediatelly found where to start. It's really amazing how this knowledge came in handy even if not produce a product of my own for the time being

[2022-02-26 02:41:32 PM] : I'm bringing back my "Let's Write" twitch livestreams and picked up on my last one this morning! Just posted the replay to YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziwPltXY-tw

Ive seen an Illustra

[2022-02-25 05:31:32 AM] : Ive seen an Illustrator doing something really interesting with her courses. She does the live workhop for free and then charges for the recording. Seems to be working out well for her. Her previous workshop had something like 2000 participants at its peak.

It's this Saturday,

[2022-02-24 03:42:12 PM] : It's this Saturday, folks!

[2022-02-23 10:11:36 AM] : update on my work for anyone interested: once again i’ve created a sales page for a course (based on safari notes), and once again the end result is something i feel weird about and unenthusiastic about. so i scrapped it. this is a cycle i’ve gone through maybe about 5 times now. i realized something this morning. my book, which has done great, started as a collection of existing e-bombs rather than as one big idea. so maybe a smarter approach for my video course would be to use a similar process: create some standalone video e-bombs. then, based on what gets a good reception, create a course around that content which has already proven to be compelling. so i believe that’s my current plan....

Help Request: I'd lo

[2022-02-22 02:38:29 PM] : Help Request: I'd love to find a way to sell my courses (ex. Mastering Remote Leadership) directly to companies to help more individual team members get access without having to pay for it themselves. But I have no idea how to do this or where to start. Have you done this? Do you know someone who has?...

[2022-02-21 09:42:57 PM] : I wanted to encourage folks to fill out this survey from Convertkit! It's reasonably in depth but very interesting to see what patterns they find.

 I blame <

[2022-02-16 02:50:24 PM] :  I blame amy. My partner is trying to pick paint and flooring colors for a post-flood restoration. She is concerned about wanting to make the room seem lighter but has mostly dark rooms and was thinking of choosing a light color. So of course all that goes through my head (with no experience other than the videos): "A light color will never come to life in a dark room".

(mainly addressed to

[2022-02-14 10:01:58 AM] : (mainly addressed to those working in tech-y audiences): in recent years there's been greater awareness of toxic communities (or toxic leadership within those communities) in the software world. I struggle with this issue a bit because the founder and main engine of the audience I serve (Racket programmers -- it's a pretty fringe-y programming language) is a huge a-hole (sorry for the salty language). Everyone else in the leadership knows this, but nothing happens. Thi...

<@U0A68ATKR> questio

[2022-02-11 12:55:52 PM] : alex question for you about formats. for a long time i’ve been fixated on the idea that the next product i’m going to create will be a course. now i’m wondering if i’m harmfully limiting myself. i personally am not the kind of person who takes programming courses, and every time i try to work on mine, it feels forced, and i’m never very happy with what i’ve created. so i’m thinking about what other types of products exist that can be perceived in the $X00-$X000 range. the one other thing i can think of is “screencasts” which are still educational videos but maybe don’t have the same constraints as a course. to summarize what i’m thinking, i’m very happy with how successful my book has been and now i want to create the next rung on my product ladder, but i’m feeling shaky on what format that product might take....

[2022-02-10 04:42:30 PM] : In the stacking the bricks article of products for developers, one listed is libraries, with the example of rails kit. Has anyone here actually sold a library this way and marketed it using the system of e bombs and whatnot?
