S468 rhinos to go lol
Mhey guys, I have a extension pvc pipe and a metal real aircraft joystick. With the CLS-E theres basically no force. How much more will the rhino give me? also once I get mine can i put the more powerful motors in it or are they too big.
MReal aircrafts give 40lbs at 9 gs and I am just trying to get as close to that as I can.
FHello using ah-64 with adaptativo center the stick got very stiff and some time moves to another position when trimming, Does anyone have experiment this behavior too?
WI personally gave up on trying to achieve "real world" forces. Perhaps not important to everyone, but once geared up, I lost the ability to fly helis, as the static force became too great.
WIt also becomes very unforgiving on the design and any small slop becomes amplified. I also find the motors aren't great at holding centre so can feel a little "loose".
WThis design gave me about 8.3:1 with the 4.2Nm motors. I found there was a point where the extra torque gained wasn't worth the disadvantages, at least for me.
Mhow many lbs of force with that design?

WThanks. I think about 35Nm. I've put a luggage scale on the handle and I think it was about 14kg of force for full deflection.
WThats about 400mm above the pivot point.
WI upgraded the rose joints, as these developed play in a rather short time. This is one of the problems with higher forces.
SAgree, from past experience with race car suspension parts and building motion sims, I purposely steered clear of them for my stick and yoke FFB setups. They do allow a nice compact build though.

WYeah, I ended up paying about $20ea for the rod ends I'm using. They seem to be holding up for now, certainly much better than the cheaper options.
WHarder to design without using at least one rod end though. Especially if you want it "compact" with these larger motors.

Nnot sure I follow exactly the symptom you are describing. Can you elaborate? Does it only happen with adaptive centering enabled?
In general, for issues I have seen related to force trim in helicopters.. Make sure you do not have any curves in your axis settings in DCS and make sure your Rhino calibration is accurate in VPf configurator

HPossibly need to swap ffb axis in the dcs settings. Sounds like your force trim maybe trimming the wrong axis?
FYes it just happen when adaptive centering enabled, when off itβs all normal.

JFor the pre-built Rhinos, how long is the lead from the power adapter to the base? What type of power connector is used?
My Rhino shipped today, and I'm trying to determine if I need to mount the power adapter on my motion rig, or if the power lead is long enough to be mounted on my rack below the rig.

NAssuming the supplier hasn't changed since mine was shipped in May, the power supply lead is only about 3'. But it is a standard 5.5mx2.5mm DC plug. I am using a 6' extension with a 90 degree end (male side) on mine.
BIt's almost like we are a bunch of 40 something, chasing a 20+ year old dream we've long given up on, mostly..

BI was JUST telling a friend this a couple days ago. With VR, FFB, MSFS, and DCS (sorry X-Plane) and the wide range of flight controls available, we are fortunate indeed to have the toyz that we have.

BQuite a long way from the ol serial port joysticks.
And having to choose between not loading joystick drivers, sound drivers or the mouse driver..
Wasnt really that hard, if I had use of my joystick I didnt need the mouse so much.

οΏ½I'm also looking forward to having the ability to use the Realsimulator F-16 grip! Do you have the info needed to enable that one in addition to the F-18 grip?
MThey use very similar firmware, and if the fix is what I think it is, it should also apply to the F-16

BMy serial has moved up by about 75 so far.
WYup, that was my intention as well. However I struggled to get the force I was wanting due to the longer extension. And then, as mentioned, it wasn't great as a heli cyclic. I'm rebuilding the base now, but I'll hopefully have something that is kinda half under the floor. Something of a compromise. Hopefully it doesn't end up looking like a dogs breakfast.
