KIt's mostly appearance, KDE is a little closer to windows and GNOME is a lot closer to Mac OS
KThe default apps change between the two as well, KDE being mostly their own apps built in QT, and GNOME being mostly their apps built on GTK
CKDE has a lot more fiddly knobs for little things but remains mostly Windows-like

CNo major performance/functionality differences. Some I would call medium, but they somewhat leapfrog between major updates to each
KThere's functionality differences but it really depends on your use case, we customize gnome a bit as well so you're not getting the default experience.

KOnly thing really of note is that as of today only KDE has HDR support on the desktop. Others will catch up eventually

You can do sooo many crazy things with it. It can even be overwhelming at first.

KThe first time I actually used Linux seriousally was on Fedora Gnome
CDash (Gnome default, just app launching)
Dock (MacOS -> Ubuntu term, apps + tray + status)
Taskbar (Windows term, apps + tray + everything)

KI didn't even learn extensions I immidietly learned how to install another DE
QI used to always gravitate to Mint
QIt's just really nice
KI never used Mint because I never used Cinnammon
