Hot weather socks
My go-to summer socks are Uniqlo Low Cut Socks (https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E469996-000/00), $5. They are cotton/poly but are thin and lightweight enough that they don't make my feet soggy and stinky. They keep my feet cooler than any wool sock I have found (I think wool socks would quickly disintegrate if they were this thin). They are no show with penny loafers and low canvas sneakers.

Drastic changes in style - Topic of the day 4/29/25
My advice to people in a similar situation is: 1) experiment and try different things out 2) secondhand (eBay, thrift) is a good way to experiment relatively cheaply. 3) posting fit pics is incredibly effective (but scary).

Drastic changes in style - Topic of the day 4/29/25
I relate to this! I joined mfad after losing a lot of weight, needing a new wardrobe, and wanting to change/improve how I dressed.

How do I tell what color the item in a photo actually is?
in my experience, the color accuracy on eBay photos is often hilariously bad.

Trendiness - Topic of the day 4/27/25
I think unless you know how to sew, or have $$$$$$ to pay for bespoke, it is sort of inevitable that you will be influenced by trends, because that is going to dictate what's available for you to buy.

Trendiness - Topic of the day 4/27/25
I think my ideal is to pay attention to trends but reserve my own judgment. If there's a trend I'm not into, I'll pass. But if I do like it, a "trendy" style means there's a lot of options on the market, and I can shop around for something I really like. For example, barn coats seem to be in this season, which is definitely something I like, so I've been keeping my eyes open.

suggestions for penny loafers for narrower feet?
I have a couple of pairs of loafers from Rancourt, and they seem pretty narrow (I ordered "wide" according to their sizing guide; my feet are not particularly wide, so I think their normal width will be narrow)

Koenji district in Tokyo for vintage. Especially Whistler for ivy stuff (more tweed jackets than I have ever seen in my life). Also Big Time for vintage (chain, multiple locations). Un-ironically, go to a Levis store (way, way better than in the states)

Best Black T-shirt - Doesn’t fade quickly
Yup...wash in cold water, and hang dry. I do this with black tees from Uniqlo ($25) and they hold up fine.

How do you separate good advice from bad advice? - Topic of the day 4/23/25
For example:
"Dress sneakers are terrible" -- bad. subjective, without use of "I" statement
"I think dress sneakers look terrible" -- good. expresses opinion but acknowledges subjectivity
"Dress sneakers have glued soles, which makes them less long-lasting" -- objective fact

One important clue for me: Uses "I" statements unless conveying objective facts about something the speaker has knowledge of.

But when it says something like "Model is 6'3", 130 lb and is wearing a size XL", that's not very useful to me.

Something I appreciate, that does seem to have become much more common, is info on the height/weight of the model, and what size they are wearing.

I think my top desires are:
* Dimensions of the garment (doesn't have to be in the product photos, though)
* Close-ups showing the fabric texture and pattern
* Pictures showing interesting details, interior of the garment, etc.
