Following up on Alex
[2023-05-19 07:29:12 PM] : Following up on Alex’s prompt above, with updates on what I’m currently working on (in between 2 jobs and 3 kids )
I’m slowly working on putting into practice the 30x500 learnings, with a push from the LaunchFTW initiative. It’s what I need at this point, figuring out a small product that can fit my current busy schedule and give me a quick win while bringing value to people. I’m serving the Ember.js audience, which is a small community compared to React or Vue. There are not many paid resources around, especially not up to date with the latest features in Ember. (I’m wondering if this is a good or bad sign ).
While doing Safari I noticed that people struggle with forms - building forms, migrating from old solutions to new patterns, localization of error messages etc (I also know that from experience and also from the fact that all open-source solutions are old and not maintained). I Safaried a couple of interesting threads on this topic and need to finish a few more. I plan to put up a guide/resource of some sort that will help people build forms without struggling. With the pain uncovered here, I plan to get up a landing page and create a couple of e-bombs to grow the email list....

moving at. Rise & repeat. This is one variable we can all reasonably control which is why I focus so much on this when building a side hustle."
I thought this was great advice, especially as seeing our lives as a single integrated system. But I am looking for something more concrete or "crisp" in 30x500 language to how I can proceed.
Anyone got any pointers?...

[2023-05-13 09:22:50 AM] : Hey folks,
I'm struggling to get back on the process after having found a cushy day job. I find that it's creatively demanding (which I love) and that nice pay cheque also keeps me from making progress on 30x500.
I know really well that I could have F*ck this moment when things change and I don't want to restart the program again. I've noticed a lot of people on here who take the course keep coming back to it (sometimes after years!)....

[2023-05-12 04:04:47 PM] : i have an idea to advance my consulting work, prompted by Samir’s comment about productized services. (i also must give credit to Ernesto (he/him) for planting some similar ideas in my mind some time ago)
name: test suite audit
price: $250
what it is: give me access to your repo and i record a 30-minute video scrutinizing your test suite and telling you what i think are your highest-yield improvement opportunities. turnaround time is one business day....
I think the orbit is
[2023-05-11 03:18:14 PM] : I think the orbit is sometimes stated as audience -> hurts, wants, buys. Othertimes it's stated as audience -> needs, wants, buy. Is there a meaningful difference to needs and hurts or am I overthinking it?
i’ll share a little
more professional it looks and all that, the more i think it will help. at this point i know the book is not a gamble so i’m willing to invest serious time and money and effort into it. i know that if i create this book people will read it.
so those are the main things i’m working right now. i’ve basically shifted my focus to “what can i do to increase my product income” to “what can i do to increase my consulting income” since the consulting has proven to be more immediately successful....
i’ll share a little
[2023-05-10 08:20:16 PM] : i’ll share a little update on my work in case anyone is interested.
i’ve been sending out my snail mail newsletter, which i started in part to try to get more consulting clients. at this point there are about 150 people signed up. it’s a bit expensive but if i get just one long-term consulting client out of it ever, the whole thing will have been worth it.
also in order to get more consulting clients, i’ve decided to a) make a list of basically everyone professionally know and then b) have a call with at least one of those people per week. the list is hundreds long and growing, so at this rate it will take me a number of years to get all the way through the list. and then i’ll start over again from the beginning! on these calls i’m making sure to let the person know that i’m now offering consulting services and to explain what my consulting services are. this is a bit time consuming but again, it won’t take many “hits” to make it all worth it....
Am I thinking ahead
[2023-05-08 08:51:29 AM] : Am I thinking ahead here or did anyone else also stress about picking an audience that you belong to or know about that is saturated?
Hey, I wonder how ot
[2023-05-07 01:38:02 PM] : Hey, I wonder how other people from EU approach mailing lists - I mean, GDPR stuff, etc. How seriously do you treat this? In theory, in my country if I get even just one customer email, I should register myself as data controller, etc. That in itself is not that a big deal I guess, but I really would like to avoid registering a business before I have any business.
How do you approach it?...
Do you guys regularl
[2023-05-06 03:49:45 PM] : Do you guys regularly score your ebombs, or is that not part of your process? I feel like I am occasionally stumbling upon 'old' pieces of the course, typically something I printed or have in PDF, that I somehow have not built into my routine at all.
I had completely missed using the ebomb score card, and want to get into a routine of doing it, at least until I am more consistent with my content.
How does it fit into your process?...

[2023-05-04 12:33:25 PM] : Is there a list of products launched by all the academy users?
Is it possible to do
[2023-04-30 05:09:04 AM] : Is it possible to download the video files from the course? I'm going on a long flight and would like to spend some of the time going through 30x500, on top of just writing ebomb(s).

[2023-04-26 09:34:21 AM] : A question of clarity on the pain points I should be hunting down
As a developer, my job is to solve pains for users. Other developers have the same job. In a world where a specific type of web developer is my audience, should I also be tracking the pains their users are facing?
For example, users HATE losing their data (strong pain point). But building resilient persistent applications is hard (solving that pain is painful)...
gonna do some thinki
[2023-04-24 11:54:42 AM] : gonna do some thinking out loud here if i may…
in january i started offering consulting services to my audience. the format so far is that we get on a call once a week and i help my client with testing (and often other areas too). i’ve had 3 clients so far who have bought this service.
something new happened this week. it occurred to me to start offering this same exact service at my day job. following a company-wide demo i did, there was a lot of interest. unlike with my consulting clients which have been 1:1, these consulting sessions are 1:17! so it’s more like a group presentation than a one-on-one engagement....
Does anybody here ke
[2023-04-24 03:05:05 AM] : Does anybody here keep personal learning plans or growth plans? One thing I learned earlier in my career is that it can be helpful to have a "learning plan" to help shape some goals and direction for the coming 1-2-4 weeks, + 3, 6, 12 and 18 months. Its not something I have heard a lot of people do, despite me finding it incredibly worthwhile.
I'm asking because I was considering building a small software product that could help manage such plans, but I'm honestly not sure if its something that anyone does....

[2023-04-23 01:46:22 PM] : I've been kicking my 30x500 back into life after pausing for a few years to survive the COVID panic and subsequent changes in the business I work in. I've been following the LaunchFTW lessons and just published the coming soon page for the product I'm building: https://pete-bowen.com/map-measure-maximise

[2023-04-22 03:48:18 AM] : Hey gang!
So I've been at this for a while, ebombing (somewhat) consistently, and sharing on LinkedIn, twitter and reddit.
I've got a few daily visitors with the odd day now being 0 visitors, but most days I have some. Far more progress than I hoped for really.
